Cebren Hydropower Plant

Project Description

Hydropower exploitation of the Crna River is of strategic interest for North Macedonia due to the significant water storage potential with the advantage of providing a peak load of electricity and seasonal and annual water storage. The Government is highly interested in realising this project because of its national, but also regional significance, as the share of renewable energy sources is growing and is expected to continue to do so in the future; reversible hydropower plants have additionally proven to be a valuable asset in balancing the regional energy system.

In order to assist with the realisation of this project, the WBIF has provided a €1 million technical assistance grant for the preparation of the Feasibility Study and Environmental and Social Impact Assessment.
