Core Network (Road R2): Construction of Mahovljani Interchange

Core Network (Road R2): Construction of Mahovljani Interchange

Project Description

The Mahovljani Interchange lies at the crossroads of the E661 Gradiska to Banja Luka and the Banja Luka to Doboj motorways, in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The interchange is key to connecting the north-west region of the country to the interregional motorway Corridor X (Zagreb-Belgrade) as it will reduce congestion, air emissions, and noise levels as well as make that section of the motorway safer for pedestrians and motorists alike.

The WBIF contributed a €21,000,000 loan provided by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to fund the investment works and a €300,000 grant to assist the newly-set up Republika Srpska Motorways public company with managing the construction of the interchange, business planning, development of a tolling strategy and the introduction of management systems.

Construction of the interchange was completed in 2012.
