Feasibility Study for Protection of Iber Canal

Feasibility Study for Protection of Iber Canal

Project Description

The Ibër-Lepenc Canal is the key artery for water supply in central/northern Kosovo*, the area with the largest development potential as it concentrates most of the mining, agricultural and industrial resources and has the highest population density.

To address the issues of water losses and pollution abatement, and secure the supply from this essential water source, WBIF has provided a grant for the preparation of a Feasibility Study to restore the main water canal in Kosovo - Ibër Canal - to its original capacity.

This will ensure more reliable and better-quality water for approximately 500,000 people residing in the central Kosovo canal basin, and support the economic and social development of the area.

* This designation is without prejudice to positions on status, and is in line with UNSCR 1244/1999 and the ICJ Opinion on the Kosovo declaration of independence.
