Water Leakage Reduction Plan for the Municipality of Tuzla

Water Leakage Reduction Plan for the Municipality of Tuzla

Project Description

The Municipality of Tuzla is a regional centre located in the northeastern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Its water supply and sewerage systems have suffered from severe underinvestment which led to physical damage to the systems and less efficient operations. One of the major indicators for deteriorated water supply systems is the percentage of “Non-revenue water” which has reached approximately 70% of the water produced in Tuzla, consisting of about 57% of technical losses (due to damaged pipes) and 13% of administrative losses (due to deficiencies in administration).

WBIF has provided technical assistance for i) the identification of investment measures to substantially reduce non-revenue water (NRW) in the water supply system of a pilot zone in Tuzla Municipality, and ii) the preparation of a conceptual design and master plan of the primary water supply systems for those inhabitants who have not been connected to the main water supply system.

According to the conceptual design, the following investments have been envisaged: nine water reservoirs with a total capacity of 1,450 m3; eight pumping stations with a total power of 46.3 kW; five booster stations with a total power of 5.14 kW; and approximately 29 km of water transmission mains.
