Kosovo, Connecting Primary and Secondary Schools in Kosovo: Feasibility Study and Cost-Benefit Analysis

Kosovo, Connecting Primary and Secondary Schools in Kosovo: Feasibility Study and Cost-Benefit Analysis

Project Description

In order to improve the quality of education, the introduction of new teaching methodologies through information and communications technology (ICT) is a high priority. Connecting primary and secondary schools through ICT infrastructure will enable such an approach. Currently, Kosovo* has satisfactory broadband coverage of 90 - 95%. Around 80% of primary and secondary schools are ready to be connected to the network but lack last-mile connectivity.

WBIF has provided a technical assistance grant for the preparation of a Feasibility Study and Cost-Benefit Analysis to assess possible options for connecting the primary and secondary schools in the entire territory of Kosovo through the extension and enhancement of modern telecommunication infrastructure.

The main purpose is to increase the broadband connection rate through Kosovo Research and Education Network (KREN) and Gigabit European Academic Network (GEANT). This will strongly support the cross-border linking of ICT infrastructure and digital integration between Western Balkan economies, and the pan-European digital market.
