Mediterranean Corridor, Bosnia and Herzegovina – Croatia CVc Road Interconnection, Exit Prenj Tunnel – Mostar North Subsection: Preliminary Design, Detailed Design, ESIA

Project Description

The Mediterranean Corridor links the Iberian Peninsula with the Hungarian - Ukrainian border. Its extension into the Western Balkans connects Central Europe, specifically Hungary and eastern Croatia, to Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Adriatic Sea. With increasing pressure on the infrastructure through high daily average traffic volumes and a corresponding increase in freight volumes, Bosnia and Herzegovina has embarked on an ambitious motorway construction programme along Corridor Vc.

The subsection from Tunnel Prenj-Exit to Mostar North is part of the section that connects the municipalities of Konjic and Mostar, and, as such, part of the Trans-European Corridor Vc. This subsection is entirely located within the Hercegovacko - Neretvanski Canton and includes the construction of a new, 13 km-long motorway with two tunnels (826 m and 2,290 m) and three bridges (360 m, 334 m and 430 m).

Technical assistance, provided through WBIF, is divided into two components:

  • Component 1: Gap Analysis & ESIA Disclosure Package for Konjic (Ovčari) - Prenj Tunnel - Mostar North;
  • Component 2: Preparation of Detailed Design for Prenj Tunnel - Mostar North
