Regional Study for Voltage Profile Improvement: Feasibility Study

Regional Study for Voltage Profile Improvement: Feasibility Study

Project Description

Overvoltage in steady-state regimes has been a critical occurrence in electricity transmission systems across the Western Balkans, resulting in rapid aging of equipment, supply disruptions, and large economic costs.

As a first step in ensuring high reliability and operational security in transmission systems in all six beneficiaries, a €1 million grant was allocated through WBIF in June 2017 for the preparation of a feasibility study for voltage regulation and reactive power compensation in the existing network and future grids planned in the next 5 to 10 years. The main objective of the technical assistance was to further improve operational conditions in high-voltage electricity transmission networks in the region.

The study comprised an analysis of the existing situation, development of the proposal for remedial measures, cost-benefit analyses, environmental and social appraisal, conclusions and recommendations. Provided technical assistance also encompassed the preparation of the Regional Project Implementation Roadmap for implementation of the remedial measures proposed and adopted in the feasibility study report.
