Rehabilitation of Vrbnica - Bar Railway Line in Montenegro along the Main Belgrade - Bar Railway (Rail Route 4)

Rehabilitation of Vrbnica - Bar Railway Line in Montenegro along the Main Belgrade - Bar Railway (Rail Route 4)

Project Description

Bar-Vrbnica is the main railway line of Montenegro’s rail network that carries around 20% of passenger volume and 60% of freight. The line was constructed as part of the railway corridor to Belgrade and opened to traffic in 1976.

This investment concerns the rehabilitation of structures and signalling modernisation on 167 km of the electrified single-track railway line between the port of Bar and the Serbian border at Vrbnica. WBIF has provided continuous technical assistance for the project preparation and implementation.

This WBIF TA grant, the third in a row, concerned the preparation of Detailed Designs for the replacement of the signalling/interlocking devices in five stations along the southern part of the railway line (from Podgorica to Bar), Technical Control (Design Review) to meet requirements of the Montenegrin construction legislation, and support to the Beneficiary in the implementation of ongoing and planned investments.
