Water and Sanitation Federation FBiH - 16 Municipalities

Project Description

WBIF has supported the efforts of the Federation BiH in developing municipality-level water and/or wastewater systems. The objective of the investment is to protect public health and the environment from water pollution while maintaining a balanced development of water supply and sanitation and safeguarding the financial and operational viability of the water companies.

This WBIF TA grant provided support under three components:

  • Component A concerned technical assistance support to the project management unit (PMU) as well as preparation of feasibility studies (FS) and quality assurance of the tender documents for the implementation of water and sanitation projects in six municipalities;
  • Component B concerned the preparation of several procedural manuals, scoping missions and preparation of project fiches for 14 additional municipalities;
  • Component C concerned the capacity building of the PMU and project implementation personnel, contract and procurement management, a feasibility study for Bosanska Grahovo water system, and the preparation of technical specifications for the water treatment plant (WTP) in Orasje and WWTP in Bosanski Petrovac.

The main expected outcomes of the investment programme include the construction of 85 km of water transmission lines, over 100 km of water distribution network, over 150 km of wastewater and/or stormwater collectors, 180 km of wastewater network, three drinking water treatment plants (WTPs), rehabilitation of one drinking WTP, and the construction of 14 wastewater treatment plants.
