Electricity transmission and distribution systems in the Western Balkans have not benefited from due investments in its expansion or overhaul for several decades now. In addition, the demand and consumption of electricity have increased and thus placed additional strains on the network.

In order to help reduce outages and losses on the networks, the WBIF has funded both project preparation activities and investment works in the transmission and distribution systems throughout the region, with a focus on high-voltage and transboundary projects.
