Project Description

In the past five years, 157,239 students have attended the six faculties that are encompassed within The University of Tirana (UT). Currently, there are 26,350 students in UT. The number of students experienced a spike in 2009, peaking in 2012 to more than 40,000 students. This was the result of the liberalization reform in education by the previous government. It led not only to an explosion of student enrolment in public universities, but private universities to that proliferated in Tirana especially. Whilst some new private universities where opening modern campuses, hence UT had to compete with new private universities that on the most part were offering better conditions for students than the public university, investment in new academic space for UT stagnated, leading to the worsening of standards for students, including the standard for m2/student.

The purpose of this project concerns the construction of new buildings for academic and recreational purposes for the students of UT in Student City. The main objectives of this project are: creating the necessary infrastructure in accordance with Albanian and international standards; creating of conditions for the development of scientific research from UT academics, but also for post-graduate students; increase excellence and academic quality supporting student success and development with contemporary academic and research spaces and teaching methods.
