This investment project will upgrade to TEN-T standards 63 km of double-track railway section on the Belgrade – Niš railway line, including electrification, signalling and telecommunication systems. It will increase travel speed from 70 km/h to up to 200 km/h, enabling a high-speed connection between the two cities and a faster flow of passages and freight in the region.
This is the third endorsement made by the EU under the EIP for the Pan-European Corridor X in Serbia to ensure rapid integration with the EU railway network.
The EU has provided technical assistance for project preparation and co-funds the investments under Flagship 1 - Connecting East to West - of the Economic and Investment Plan for the Western Balkans through the WBIF.
