The Canton of Sarajevo and its capital city are tackling the outdated 1,119 km water distribution network, which suffers from a staggering 70% water loss. This project seeks to drastically reduce that figure with a comprehensive plan to replace or rehabilitate ageing pipelines, pumping stations and wells, adding or improving about 4,000 new household connections. Ultimately, this project aims to enhance public health, boost commercial infrastructure, and improve the overall efficiency of water supply in the wider Sarajevo canton. It contributes to the Green Agenda of the Western Balkans objectives, stipulated in the Water Management Strategy of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The WBIF Bilateral Donors co-fund the investments included in Phase 3 of the project under Flagship 7 - Waste and wastewater management - of the Economic and Investment Plan for the Western Balkans.
