This investment project will construct a 22 km-long rail bypass at Niš. The investments are part of the overhaul of the railway line between Niš and Dimitrovgrad at the Bulgarian border, which includes rehabilitation, electrification, signalling and telecommunication systems.
The rail interconnection between Niš and the Bulgarian border line is part of the indicative extension of the Orient/East-Med Corridor on Rail Corridor Xc, which connects Central Europe and the Western Balkans with the maritime interfaces of the North, Baltic, Black and Mediterranean Seas.
The EU has provided technical assistance for project preparation and co-funds the investments under Flagship 1 - Connecting East to West - of the Economic and Investment Plan for the Western Balkans through the WBIF.
