Albania is a net importer of electricity, and domestic generation is almost entirely dependent on hydropower.
This investment project will rehabilitate the electro-mechanical components and supporting network of the Fierza hydropower plant, the country’s second-largest facility. It will extend its operation lifespan by at least 30 years and increase output by 10%. The plant has an installed capacity of 500 MW and an average annual electricity production of 1,328 GWh.
The EU co-funds the investments under Flagship 4 - Renewable energy - of the Economic and Investment Plan for the Western Balkans through the WBIF.
