The Orient/East-Med Corridor (R10) crosses Kosovo* from the administrative border with Serbia to the border with North Macedonia and constitutes Kosovo’s sole connection to the wider region by rail. The entire track, 148 km long, is in poor condition, with serious structural limitations that do not allow for traffic in excess of 60km/h and in some areas 20 km/h.
The route will be renovated in three phases:
This investment concerns the general rehabilitation and modernisation of the Signalling and Telecommunication equipment for Phase 1 and Phase 2 to comply with technical specifications on interoperability based on EU standards.
The improvements will benefit local, regional and other railway undertakings that will use this line for the transport of passengers and freight with higher speed and increased safety. In addition to economic and transport benefits, the rehabilitation of the line will improve environmental conditions and reduce traffic congestion and damage to road infrastructure.
